The Role of Sports Bras: Support Where It Counts

The Role of Sports Bras: Support Where It Counts

No piece of activewear is more crucial than a well-fitted sports bra. It keeps your boobs under wraps meaning you’ll be comfortable during exercise, and protects your breast tissue from strain. But with so many choices, how do you find the one for you?

Getting Measured: The Foundation of the Perfect Fit

  • Band size: Wrap the tape around your ribcage just under your bust, ensuring it's snug but not tight. This gives you your band measurement.
  • Bust size: Measure around the fullest part of your bust, keeping the tape parallel to the ground. Subtract your band size from your bust measurement to find your cup size.

If you're unsure, a professional fitting can help. A well-fitting sports bra should be snug without being restrictive, with no gaps, bulges, or digging in.

Types of Sports Bras: One Size Doesn’t Fit All

  • Low-impact bras are excellent for activities like yoga, Pilates, and stretching, where comfort and flexibility are key.
  • Medium-impact bras are suitable for weightlifting, cycling, and hiking and offer a good balance of comfort and support.
  • High-impact bras are designed for high-impact activities such as running, jumping, and HIIT, providing maximum support to minimise movement.

Choosing the correct bra for your activity level is as important as ensuring it fits well. A high-impact activity with a low-impact bra could be a disaster, and using a high-impact bra for yoga might be too much. Match your support to your sport for the best results.
